MATERIAL & TEXTURE

Material selection defines not only the visual identity of an interior, but also its tactile quality, durability and long-term integrity.

The Role of Materials

Atelier RCVRD approaches interior materials through a
balance of technical performance, visual harmony and intended use.

Each material is selected not only for its appearance, but for how it behaves, integrates and endures.

Leather

Leather remains one of the most defining materials in automotive interiors, valued for its depth, character and long-term ageing properties.
Its natural grain, flexibility and finish allow it to adapt to both heritage restorations and contemporary interior concepts.

At Atelier RCVRD, leather is selected not only for its visual quality, but for its behaviour under tension, its durability and its compatibility with each component.
Different grain structures, thicknesses and backing options are considered to ensure proper fit, longevity and a refined tactile experience.

From smooth finishes to more pronounced natural textures, leather offers a wide range of possibilities in colour, stitching and detailing.
When properly selected and applied, it contributes to an interior that feels balanced, cohesive and built to last.

Alcantara

Alcantara is widely used in high-performance interiors for its refined tactile feel, lightweight properties and excellent grip.
Its consistent texture and matte finish allow it to complement both contemporary designs and performance-oriented applications.

Alcantara is selected based on its intended use, placement and interaction with surrounding materials.
Its behaviour under tension, resistance to wear and compatibility with various backing and mounting surfaces are carefully considered to ensure durability and a precise finish.

Available in a wide range of colours and configurations, Alcantara can be applied across seating, panels and trim elements to create interiors that feel cohesive, controlled and purpose-driven.

Fabrics

Automotive fabrics offer a versatile alternative to leather and Alcantara, providing a balance between durability, comfort and functional performance.
Their structure and composition allow for applications where breathability, weight and resistance to wear are key considerations.

We selects fabrics based on their intended environment and use, taking into account factors such as abrasion resistance, UV stability and compatibility with underlying materials.
Different weaves, densities and finishes are evaluated to ensure both visual coherence and long-term performance.

Available in a wide range of textures, patterns and technical compositions, fabrics allow for both subtle integration and more distinctive interior expressions while maintaining a controlled and durable result.

Vinyl

Vinyl is a highly durable and versatile material commonly used in applications where resistance to wear, moisture and frequent use is essential.
Its stability and ease of maintenance make it particularly suited for marine environments, utility vehicles and high-traffic interior components.

Vinyl is selected based on its technical performance, flexibility and compatibility with specific applications.
Modern automotive-grade vinyls offer a wide range of textures and finishes, allowing them to closely replicate the appearance of leather while providing enhanced durability in demanding conditions.

When properly specified and integrated, vinyl contributes to interiors that remain consistent, resilient and visually balanced over time.

Carpet

Carpet plays a fundamental role in the overall finish and acoustic comfort of an interior, contributing to both visual cohesion and sound insulation.
Its texture, density and fit directly influence the perceived quality and refinement of the cabin.

Atelier RCVRD selects automotive carpets based on their structure, durability and suitability for the vehicle’s intended use.
Factors such as pile type, backing material and resistance to wear are carefully considered to ensure proper fitment, longevity and consistent appearance over time.

Available in various textures, colours and constructions, carpet allows for precise integration within the interior while supporting both restoration accuracy and contemporary design approaches.

Padding & Structural Foams

Padding and structural foams form the foundation of any interior, directly influencing comfort, shape and long-term durability.
Often unseen, these materials play a critical role in how an interior feels, performs and ages over time.

At the atelier, different foam types are selected based on their specific function within the interior.
Seat foams are chosen for density, support and resilience, while sew foam is used to achieve controlled softness, definition and stitching depth.
Forming materials such as FormCore are applied in panels and dashboards to create stable, consistent surfaces that maintain their shape under tension and over time.

By carefully selecting and combining these materials, each interior is developed with the right balance of structure, comfort and precision.

Thread & Stitching

Thread and stitching define the visual precision and structural integrity of an interior, influencing both durability and overall finish.
From assembly seams to decorative detailing, each stitch contributes to the clarity and definition of the final result.

Atelier RCVRD selects thread types and sizes according to their specific application.
Finer threads are typically used for assembly, while heavier gauges such as 136 and 210 are applied for visible stitching and finishing details to create depth and contrast.
UV-resistant threads are used where long-term exposure is expected, ensuring colour stability and durability over time.

Various stitching techniques — including French seams, topstitching and double stitching — are used to achieve different levels of definition and reinforcement.
CNC-patterned designs such as diamond or hexagonal stitching allow for more complex textures and visual structures, offering a wide range of customization possibilities.

With an extensive selection of colours, stitch patterns and configurations, stitching becomes a key element in shaping interiors that feel precise, cohesive and distinctly tailored.

Material performance defines the integrity of an interior.

Each material behaves differently under real conditions — heat, tension, friction and long-term use all influence how an interior evolves over time.

Materials are selected not only for their appearance, but for how they perform within the vehicle environment.
